At a meeting of the Masonic Lodge of this place the following preamble and resolutions were adopted:
Brothers, how frail is human life; how uncertain are all its ever changing vicissitudes. To-day we are in deep morning. a great sorrow has saddened our hearts. Our brother, Alexander Lawson, is no more. He has passed the portals of death, from which there is no defence. And,
Whereas, It is but just that a fitting recognition of his many virtues should be had. Therefore, be it
Resolved, By Trace Lodge, No. 167, on the registery of the Grand lodge of thee State of Michigan of Free and Accepted Masons: That, while we bow with humble submission to the Providence of God, we do not the less mourn the loss of our deceased brother.
Resolved, That in the death of Alexander Lawson we lament the loss of a brother who was eve ready to give aid and sympathy to the needy and distressed; an active member of this society, whose utmost endeavors were extended for its welfare and prosperity. As a citizen of this community his upright and noble life won the esteem of all who knew him.
Resolved, That the heartfelt sympathy of this lodge be extended to his family, in their deep affliction.
Resolved, That, as a token of respect and esteem we feel for our deceased brother, this lodge be draped in mourning for thirty days.
Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the records of the lodge, and a copy transmitted to the family of our deceased brother, and to the Deerfield Record.

The following preamble and resolutions were enacted by the Order of F. And a. M. of this place, at the obsequies of Mr. O. A. Loomis, on the 17th inst.:
Brothers, a chair is vacant in our Lodge; our brother Orville A. Loomis has been called from the portals of our lodge, in the pride of his manhood, to that of the Grand Master's above.
Therefore be it resolved by Trace Lodge, No. 167 on the registry of the Grand Lodge of the State of Michigan, of Free and Accepted Masons, That , while we humbly submit to the inevitable decrees of Providence, yet we mourn in deep sorrow the loss of our deceased brother, and are hereby reminded and admonished of the uncertainty of human life and of the importance of always being duly and truly prepared for the Master's call.
Resolved, That in the death of our brother we mourn the loss of an active member of our society, who was ever ready to extend aid to the needy and suffering; and whose utmost endeavors were for its usefulness and prosperity; as a citizen of this community, his stern integrity, his kindness and benevolence will long be remembered.
Resolved, That we extend to the widow and children of our deceased brother, our sincere sympathy in their great affliction.
Resolved, That this Lodge be draped in mourning for thirty days; and that these resolutions be spread upon the records of our Lodge, and copy transmitted to the family of our deceased brother, and to the Deerfield Record. Nov. 17th 1882
