The following biographical sketch was responsible for the research
on this whole family.
"Biographical Review of Clinton and Essex Counties, N.Y."
At Ticonderoga Historical Society Library, Ticonderoga, N.Y.
"Major Lyman Ormsby, a native of Essex Co., N.Y. was b. May 21, 1821 at Gough Ore Bed in the Town of Moriah. His paternal grandfather, Joseph Ormsby, settled early. He was a native of Mass. whence he migrated to Moriah. He opened a big ore mine called the Gough Mine. He served in the Revolutionary War. The children of Joseph Ormsby were; James, William, Susan, Relief, Horace.
Note: the author is confused here in the Josephs. William (above) was the father of Major Lyman. He was a lumberman at Moriah until 1837. He traveled through Michigan and other states, finally to Kansas where he died. He married Sarah Burlingame of Port Henry. They had 11 children the Major being the 9th child.
At an early age, Lyman, engaged in lumbering for the Berry
Mills. Later, he was connected with the State Militias and was
appointed Commander of the Schroon Company. Now (1896) he is retired
and living at the home of a daughter, Mrs. James H. Bond of Port
Henry, aged 74 years."
Order of birth of children is not known, from probate of will
and from grave records in Moriah Cemetery, Moriah, N.Y.

J. Bond, my daughter by my 2nd wife Elsie - -etc.- -"
Probate of the will is in Book K at the County Court House at
Elizabethtown, N.Y. (No one seems to know why the wills and probates
are partly kept at Ticonderoga, and partly at Elizabethtown)
Mary J. Bond was approved as Executrix of the estate of Lyman
Ormsby on May 7, 1910. She states Lyman Ormsby died Dec. 28, 1909.
