Much of the following information from Mr. A.F. Hayward, Genealogist, of Essex, N.Y.
Buried in "Stevenson Cemetery" on State Hwy 9N between Port Henry and Westport, Essex Co., N.Y. The Howard Monument adjoins the lot where the grave stone of, "Charlotte, the wife of Joseph Ormsbee" is located.
Elihu H. Coll. He died in Westport, N.Y. Oct. 31, 1846. There are no records of "Coll" children, but in the Essex County records at Elizabethtown, N.Y., there is the most peculiar deed:
Deed Book Q Q dated 1845
"James S. Wells deeds his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Wells,
to Elihu H. Coll and Relief M. Coll giving them the privilege
of later adopting the child, if they wish - - etc."
In the estate papers of Elihu H. Coll, Mr. Hayward found that Relief M. was the administratrix, and came into possession of all his real estate. There was also a document dated Nov. 20, 1846 in which H.B. Ormsbee consents to be appointed guardian to "Mary Elizabeth Coll, otherwise called Mary Elizabeth Wells."
Relief M. then resided on, and operated the Coll land, located in the Town of Westport, Essex Co., N.Y. Then abt. 1852/53 Relief M. (Ormsbee) Coll m. 2nd. Frederick B. Howard. His dates from the "Howard Monument" mentioned above;
"F.B. Howard 1809 - 1902

Frederick W. Howard, b. July 4, 1880 - d. May 20, 1923

In the N.Y. State census of 1855, the family is listed as follows;
Howard, Frederick B. age 45 b. in Vt. Res. of Westport 34 yrs.
, Relief, wife age 48 b. in Vt. " " 5 yrs.
, Mary Coll, adopted dau age 17 b. in Essex Co., N.Y.
This shows that Relief and F.B. Howard had adopted Mary E. Wells.
Mary Elizabeth Coll md. Robert R. Stevenson, for in her will (Will Book G) dated Aug. 23, 1878 and proved Sept. 11, 1880, Relief M. makes provisions for Mary Stevenson, wife of Robert R. Stevenson, and for their children.
There is no record of children of Relief and F.B. Howard.
The following Court records show the period of time between
which Relief md. F.B. Howard.
Deed Book K K dated Apr. 8, 1852
"Relief M. Coll, of Westport, N.Y. sells - - etc."
Mortgage Book S dated Sept. 17, 1853

her husband, F.B. Howard - - etc."
