at Swansea, Mass.
Information taken from old letters and from the diary RMO made
on his trip to Rhode Island and Mass. in 1854.
William H. Luther. Lived at Southbridge, Mass. in 1840. At Millbury, Mass in 1852 and 1854 diary.
Hannah W. Luther. Lived at Millville, Mass. in 1852. Letter says, "Her husband well off and owns a handsome place." In his diary of 1854, RMO visited "Cousin Hannah W. Aldrich" in Millville, Mass. Letter of Mar. 22 (probably 1852) says, "Hannah has just lost her second husband, Otis Aldridge"
Joshua Ormsbee Luther. Lives in Springfield, Mass. in 1852
at 33 Orleans St. Letter of Feb. 3, 1878, "Joshua O. Luther
died Jan. 13, 1878 aged 71 last Christmas."
Mary Ann Luther. RMO diary 1854, "Went to Cousin Wm. Bellows,
his wife is Mary Ann Luther"
Thomas C. Luthe.. Letter of Mar. 22 (1852) says, "Thomas in Waterbury, Ct." Letter of Feb. 3, 1878 says, "Uncle Thomas Luther from Waterbury, Ct. came to the funeral." (of Joshua O. Luther)
Most of these old letters to Russell M. Ormsbee from the Luthers
and Cahoons deal with the genealogy of the Chase Family, for it
was during this time that the famous Chase Townley estate in England
was having so much notoriety here in America, This estate was
reputed to consist of large amounts of land and a great deal of
cash, so that, everyone who had Chase ancestors was trying to
prove his connection so as to participate in the spoils.
