From: "History of Saratoga Co., N.Y." (1878) p. 342
"Isaac C. Ormsby, son of Ira Ormsby, was born in the Town
of Greenfield in this County, Apr. 24, 1820. He was educated at
the district school in his native Town, Judge Bockes having been
his first instructor. For several winters he, himself, "taught
the young how to shoot", but subsequently (in 1845) entered
the office of Ellis and Bullard, at Waterford, N.Y., fully determined
to follow the law. James B. McKean (afterwards Judge) was persuing
his studies in the same office at the same time. He made rapid
progress, being admitted to the Common Pleas bar in 1846, and
to that of the Supreme Court in June following. In 1862, he was
elected District Attorney, and again in 1865. In 1871, he was
again called upon to discharge the duties of the same office,
and was re-elected in 1874.
His 12 years incumbency of the office of District Attorney proved
him to be a fearless and honest public officer and a faithful
public prosecutor. Since his admission to the bar, Mr. Ormsby
has gained and maintained a successful practise at Waterford,
his home. He is of medium stature and possessed of a vital temperament,
and intensive mind qualities, eminently fitting him for his profession,
and for the important office he has filled so long."
CRAMER FAMILY
All of this family record was given me by Mrs. Katherine (VanKeuren) Ormsbee of Waterford, N.Y. (1960). She is the wife of Charles Cramer Ormsby, Jr. a descendant of Isaac Chauncey Ormsbee who married Laura Porter Cramer. She has the Conrad Cramer Family Bible from which these records were taken.
The first ancestor of whom we have knowledge is Conrad Cramer who was born in Germany in 1734, and came to America as a boy. He settled in Saratoga Co., N.Y. about 3 miles S.W. of Schuylerville, and is buried on his own land. He married Margaret Brisbin, who was born in Scotland in 1742, and who came to America with her family about 1763, and also settled near Schuylerville, N.Y.
