Emmett L. served in the Civil War. His grave stone has the inscription;
"Co. B 128th Regt. N.Y. Vols."
From Mrs. Palmer: "Emmett L. Ormsbee, who was b. 26 May 1836 in Poultney, Vt. entered service at Ft. Edward, N.Y. Aug. 20, 1862 as a private in Co. B 128th Regt. N.Y. Vol. Infantry and was discharged as a private near Washington, D.C. June 8, 1865. Was engaged in the Battles of Chancellarsville, Gettysburg, and others. Was captured at Buffalo Creek. The names of his most intimate comrades in the service were, Silon Ormsby, John Ormsby, Charles Mosher, George Perry, Jerry Green, and James Taylor.

Hello! I saw your query at genforum and am so excited. I have
been looking for a des. of this family for a long time. My interest
is mainly because of Jemima Olmstead, wife of Emmett. We have
been to Fort Ann and Fort Edward several times gathering records,
but I have run into a few brick walls in some areas of my research.
I do have some VR's, obits and info compiled by Iona Palmer of
Glens Falls. I can't wait to hear from you!

Thank you so much for answering. I looked at both websites
and read the info on Emmett Ormsby and family. I have a few other
details for you. Jemima was the daughter of Jeremiah Olmstead
and Sarah (Sally) Ferguson. I have 2 additional children of Emmett
and Jemima that are not on your list: Frederick born 1859 and
Ella born 1863. The Fort Ann town clerk has place of burial for
both Jemima and Iola as W. Fort Ann cemetery, but cannot find
either in the cemetery records. I noticed that your info says
they were buried in Glens Falls. Do you know if there is a tombstone
for Jemima? I am eager to find a des. of Emmett and Jemima. You
mentioned that you have contact with several on my line. I would
be so grateful for that info. There are still a few Ormsby's living
in Fort Edward today and I plan on writing to them in hopes that
they are des. of Emmett. I have Emmett and Jemima's obits and
death records for Jemima and Iola. Thank you for offering to share
your Emmett info with me - I am interested and will share what
I have also. Who was the Iona Palmer who compiled the Ormsby info?
