Hello:
Saw your site about the Ormsby family. Several years ago I bought
at an antique shop a collection of 16 letters written during WWI
from the years 1917-1919 from Dr. Elmer H. Ormsby to his folks
in South Glens Falls, NY.
I assume this is the same Elmer Ormsby listed at your site, although
I haven't read the letters recently. I would like to find someone
related to this family or with an interest in preserving their
history. Surely these letters would be special to someone other
than me. I bought them when my own son was serving in the US Military,
upon his graduation from West Point. Thankfully, he never had
to go to war. Maybe you would know of a family member who would
like to have these letters.

No direct relationship. The Blackwoods are remotely connected to some of my (Don) ancestors. Hartley Blackwood was a cousin of Elmer's wife and appears to have been a friend of my grandfather's brother (John "Clarence" Ross). Clarence was killed at Vimy Ridge April 9, 1917. Hartley was killed February 25, 1917 also at Vimy Ridge. He is mentioned extensively in Clarence's diary. Don and Jeanne Ross

Elmer Harrison Ormsby was my uncle and I will try and locate his family - please keep in touch - Eleanor
E-mail from Eleanor Hall (eleanorhall@home.com), Dated: 14 Oct 2001
Dr. Ormsby's daughter was Francis Jean Ormsby - she died in
1998. Her husband was Clyde Gerald Dixon - he died in 1979.
Their children - Gary Blackwood Dixon - born June 15,1946
Paula Jean Dixon - born December 18, 1948
Deborah Elizabeth Dixon - born October 16,1954
I received an address before 1998 but not a phone number - Box
274 Mansfield Depot - Connecticut - USA -06251 - 0274.
I have now sent a letter in hopes that some of the children might
still live there. I know that if I can find them they would treasure
the letters! I will keep you posted. This is so exciting Eleanor

My grandfather was William Blackwood and I am working on the Blackwood family tree. I have Muriel Eloise and her husband Elmer Harrison Ormsby listed.
E-mail from Donald Poyner, (dpoyner99@home.com), dated Oct 15, 2001
I am not directly related to Elmer, but his wife, Muriel Eloise
Blackwood, is my 2nd cousin twice removed. I would also like to
get more info on this family. All I have is that Muriel Eloise
Blackwood maried Elmer Harrison Ormsby, and that they had 2 female
children. I can offer more info on the Blackwood family and their
connections in Huntingdon County, Quebec and Glengarry County,
Ontario.
