American Civil War

Amos served 3 yrs. 2 mos. in the Civil War. He enlisted Oct. 22, 1861 in Co. K 92nd N.Y. Vols. (History of St. Lawrence Co., N.Y.)

By 1917, Amos Ormsbee must have decided to retire. He was the owner of the farm which his father had owned. His sister, Lydia Robinson was his only living relative, so he arranged for the disposal of the farm, and for himself to be taken care of during the remainder of his life.

In Deed Book 282 dated Mar. 17, 1917 at Canton, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y.
"Contract agreement between Theron H. Robinson, of Potsdam, N.Y. of the first part; and Amos Ormsbee of Louisville, N.Y. of the second part;

1st. Amos Ormsbee has this day executed a deed to his farm to
Theron H. Robinson who is to take possession on March 1st,
      1918.
2nd. Second party shall have his home and live with the 1st
party's family during his life time.
3rd. Second party shall have the use of a horse and rig without
      charge whenever he wants it.
4th. First party shall pay second party during his natural life
      $200.00 per year.
5th. After the death of second party, Alton Robinson shall
receive $200.00 per year for 10 years after the death
of the second party, and if Alton Robinson shall die
before 10 years, the $200.00 per year shall be paid to
his widow and children until the expiration of 10 years.
6th. If the party of the first part ever fails in any of
these conditions he shall forfeit title to the premises."

Arthur Robinson, son of Theron (Aug. 8, 1962) States that all of the above conditions were complied with, and the farm was finally sold by their family not too long ago.
