Capt. Daniel Barney was Representative to the General 
Court for 18 years and a delegate to the convention at
Exeter that framed the constitution of New Hampshire 
in 1782. He was a well respected man of great wealth 
and intellect. He died at age 87, having lived 18 years
longer than his wife. He too, was buried in Bullock's 
Hill Cemetery, Swansea, Bristol Co., MA.

Sarah Barney, one of nine children lived her life in 
western Massachusetts, near the Connecticut border. 
Her father, Daniel Barney was prominent in local 
politics and has been referred to as ".. a man
brilliant in debate, a learned man of great renown". 
Sarah brought to her husband, great family respect 
and endowed her children with good intellect. Sarah 
Barney Franklin died at age 50 and is buried in 
Bullock's Hill Cemetery, Swansea, Bristol Co., MA.

Daniel Barney was Representative to the General Court for 18 years. The Bliss "History of Rhoboth" says he was Representative in 1741, 43, 45, 46, 47, 49. In 1733 his brothers Joseph and John Barneysigned a quit claim deed to Daniel. His will, as Daniel Barney, "Gent." of Rehoboth, dated Dec. 30, 1774, recorded March 1, 17 84, with his son Benaiah as Executor, mentions sons Constant, Daniel , David and Beniah; and daughters Elizabeth wife of Joshua Reed; Sarah wife of Lemuel Franklin; Mary and Anna, both deceased. Also mentioned are Mary's children: Jacob, Waitstill, Avis and Mary Ormsbee, and Anna's children: Charles Wheaton, John Sanders and Sarah Sanders . Witnesses were Joseph Barney, Daniel Weed, Sylvanus Martin (Taunton Probates). He was "of Dartmouth" in 1729 when he married Hannah Clark. He was believed to have died about 1757, but no death record or administration of his estate have been found. Presumably he is the John Barney who married in Rehoboth, Sept. 16, 1764, Mary Wheeler who was perhaps the Mary Wheeler born April 28, 1730, daughter of Philip and Martha (Salisbury) Wheeler. [But the John Barney who md. Mary Wheeler has been identified as John Barney of Newport, son of Israel and Mary (Dring) Jr.] Otherwise the last record of him is in 1757 , when, with with Keziah, he deeds to his son Aaron "all my real and personal estate with no reservations, of every kind and nature." This presumably included the land deeded to John and Keziah Barney i n 1751 (Taunton Deeds). A 1761 deed may relate to this John Barney , or to his son or one of his nephews: In 1761, John Barney, Daniel Barney and Daniel Davis Jr., with wife Patience, deed land which was an original right of Thomas Ormsbee.
