1870 Lafayette Co. MO census (Davis Twp, East) - Beale lived next door to his brother Robert and family. Living with Beale's family was Aggie Baltimore, age 68, Black, born in Virginia. Note: Kay Boyer Matthews recalled for us during a visit (April, 1998) that "Uncle Matt", the only one of Beale's four slaves who was still living when she was a child, lived with Turner and Lutie. He was very good to the children; they adored him and competed to see who got to sleep near Uncle Matt.
1880 Lafayette Co. MO census, East Davis Twp, pg 314) - Beale & Ann still had Beal M., Wm. W., Emmett and daughter, Lucy Edna Cunningham, age 24 (widowed), living at home with them. (the Barbees lived in the eastern part of the county that neighbors Saline County, where John R. Wallace was living at that time - and likely why Turner was living with the Wallace family as a laborer, and getting acquainted with his future bride, Lutie!)
The Lafayette Co. MO Atlas of 1877 shows a parcel of land in
Davis Twp (T49W, R24W, S12) containing 70 acres in the name of
B. A. Barbee. Next to this land are 90 acres in the name of Robert
Barbee. The Atlas of 1897 shows these same 70 acres (of B.A. Barbee)
owned by Claus Richter, who also owned them in 1914 (Atlas). The
90 acres of Robert Barbee were owned by William Owen in 1897,
and by John H. Owen by 1914. An index to deed records of Lafayette

He was laid to rest in the Chilhowee Cemetery."
Records from Barbee Bible indicate Beale was born and married in Henry Co. VA. However, the 1850 Rappahannock Virginia Census suggests that Beale was born in Virginia
Lucy Edna Barbee was born about 1856 in, VA.
From letter, Virgina Mullinax Botts, Columbia, MO, 1967
Per 1880 census, Lafayette Co., Mo., vol 19, Ed. 52, sheet 24,
line 10 - was living in home of her parents, Beale Ashby Barbee
and Ann Morgan Turner Barbee. (Some sources believe she was born
in Rappahannock Co. VA). During a visit to Kay Boyer Matthews
(Apr. 1998), she told us that Aunt Edna, as she was called, would
come to visit Turner & Lutie. She always brought 3 or 4 bags
(lots of clothes), and pretty much took over the household during
her stay. Kay remembers the children had to be quiet while she
took her naps, every afternoon at 2:00 p.m. and that she seemed
haughty to them. She provided them with some amusement, however,
when she died her hair red with tea leaves!
Beal M. Barbee was born about 1866 in, MO. From 1880 census for Lafayette Co., Mo., vol. 19, Ed. 52, sheet 24, line 10
William Willis Barbee was born about 1868 in, MO. From 1880 census, Lafayette Co., Mo., vol. 19, Ed. 52, sheet 24, line 10. Note: The 1850 Rappahannock Co. VA census, pg. 150, Flint Hill postoffice (northern part of county) lists a WILLIAM WILLIS Morgan, age 88, born in England, and living in the home of Betsy Morgan, age 51, born VA. They were neighbors of Edna Barbee, widow of Turner and mother of Beale & Robert, and of Franklin and Lucy Turner, whose daughter Ann MORGAN Turner married Beale Ashby Barbee, and another of their daughters, Lucy M., married Beale's brother, Robert. This seem yet another piece of circumstance that ties these families - Barbee, Turner, Morgan - together.
John Barbee was born in Jun 1870. appears as age 1/12 in 1870 census, 8 Jul 1870, Lafayette Co., Mo., pg. 2. (Some sources say this is John Emmett)
Emmett F. Barbee was born after 1870 in , , MO. Fron 1880 census, Lafayette Co., Mo., vol. 19, Ed. 52, sheet 24, line 10. (Some sources claim that this is John Emmett)

The family at that time was on their way from Virginia, seeking a new home in Missouri. They first settled near Concordia and aftrwards near Marshall in Caline (sic) County, on a large plantation. The family located near Chilhowee in 1904, and Mr. and Mrs. Barbee took part in the founding of the Chilhowee Baptist church. Mr. Barbee loved his church. Obit., "Daily Star-Journal", Warrensburg, Mo., Saturday, May 2, 1936 -"T.D. Barbee Dies At Chilhowee Home Death Follows An Attack of 'Flu'-Funeral Services Sudnay Afternoon. T.D. Barbee, 79, long time resident of Johnson County, died Friday afternoon at his home in Chilhowee. Although he had been sick for some time, it was believed that an attack of the 'flu' greatly weakened his condition resulting in his death. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Chilhowee Baptist church conducted by the Rev. G. L. Newkirk. Burial will be in Carpenter Cemetery there. All but one of Mr. Barbee's children were at his bedside. A daughter, Mrs. Edna Jackson, of Chicago, was unable to be here. Surviving besides the wife are the following children: Mrs Susie Boyer, Savannah, Mo.; Mrs. Blanch Graham, Chilhowee; Emmett of Clinton; John of Warrensburg; Wallace of north of Knob Noster, and Howard of Albuquerque, N. M."
On Sunday, 31 Aug. 1997, grandson Leland Graham led us on a "tour" of the Warrensburg/Chilhowee area where his grandparents resided after coming to Johnson County. In the late teens and early twenties, after "they came down here in a covered wagon" from Alma/Blackburn area (rented land from Tom Cheatham) (northern part of county); next they farmed a rented property north of Warrensburg, owned by Ben Sams, who "was an old bachelor who worked at the bank." After retiring from farming they lived for a while in the community of Holden, and in "the yellow house", a small place near son John Barbee/daughter Suzie Barbee Boyer. Leland remembers that during this period they kept only "an old horse named Flint, a buggy, and a Jersey cow." Their last home was in the community of Chilhowee.
Turner was enumerated with the family of John R. and Cassandra Wallace on the 1880 Saline Co. MO census (Elmwood Twp, Post Office, Blackburn) pg. 400. He was age 23, occupation "laborer". His future bride, Robert's daughter Lutie was age 19. They were married a year later, in 1881.
Nannie Blanche Barbie Family Bible - "Her mother died when she was 3. Uncle John and Aunt Ann Elbert raised her." However, 1870 census show her father, John Robert Wallace, living in Saline Co., Mo. with 2nd wife and 2 of their children, plus "Lulu E."
Burial per "Tombstone Inscriptions, Johnson County, Missouri", Vol. VI,Williams, Betty Harvey, 410 Eighth Street Terrace, Warrensburg, Mo., 64093, 1968.
Per grandson Leland Graham, 31 August 1997, Lutie was "at Florene's" house in Kansas when the Chilhowee telephone operator called the family to tell them that Lutie had passed away. When they called Florene, they were told that Lutie was well. It was, however, exactly one week later that she died, reportedly of a "heart attack".

Wallace, prominent citizens of the community. She was united in marriage August 17, 1881 to Turner Dyson Barbee. The young couple began housekeeping in Lafayette county near Concordia. Later they moved to Johnson county, living in various communities up to the time of his death in 1936. A short time before his decease they located in Chilhowee, and here she had continued her residence to the time of her passing. She was the mother of ten children-five sons and five daughters. Thomas Barbee. He was General in Rev War, member of
KY Legislature in 1795, had 4 land grants totaling 4350 acres.
Will written 7 Feb 1798 & names 4 brothers and a Mildred Fields.
From Bronaugh History -- Thomas Barbee, the oldest son of John
Barbee, Sr., was born in Culpeper County, VA. He served in the
Rev War, throughout the entire war where he was Captain. At the
close of the war he went to Kentucky where he soon became engaged
in many Indian campaigns of that state. In the battle of the Maumee
in 1794 he was Brigadier General of the Kentucky Volunteers under
General Anthony Wayne. The following excerpt from an account of
this battle is interesting: "All the historians agree that
the defeat of General St. Clair in 1791 by the Indians of the
Northwest territory was the most disastrous ever sustained by
the American Army in its battles with the Indians. On the other
hand, this defeat was retrieved by a most complete and decisive
victory in a vast powerful horde at the Rapids of the Maumee in
1794... Wayne's legion was on the right, its flank covered by
the Maumee, one brigade of mounted volunteers was on the left
under Brig. Gen Todd, the other was in the rear under Brig. Gen.
Barbee" Early in life General Barbee had married a Miss slaughter
of Culpeper County, Virginia, and after her death he married her
cousin, Lucy Slaughter, daughter of Col. John Slaughter of Culpeper
County. She died about 1791. They had no children. Thomas Barbee
did not live long after the Indian troubles were somewhat settled
for he died Feb 22, 1797. He left his estate which was quite large
to his brother, Joshua, with whom he had been associated in business.
His home and farm was at what is now the edge of Danville, a beautiful
estate, the house of stone which was enlarged by Col. Joshua Barbee.
Thomas married (1) Alice Slaughter.
Thomas also married (2) Lucy Slaughter. Lucy died in 1791.
