My Dear, and only earthly father:
I fully expected to have seen you long enough to have a little visit. But the time was wholly consumed with the weeping relatives as our dear sisters departure from this life was so unexpected to us. We were wholly unprepared for her sudden flight from this world. I was certain I would see you at train time, as Edwin had gone over to see you, and I thought he would bring you with him to say good bye. I was so disappointed. But I will ever remember your loving kindness. I hold you in greatest love and esteem. You have always had a large place in my affections, and your honorable, exemplary life is held in great esteem by me. So will say once more good bye.
From your devoted and affectionate daughter.
Mate
