  2. Eaton Hicks, born 3 JAN 1807, Sutton, Worcester, MA
  3. Polly Lackey Hicks, born 3 DEC 1811, Sutton, MA

Additional Facts:

1790 Census - Caleb is no doubt one of the three males over 16 included in his father's household since he did not marry until 1796.

1800 Census - MA, Worcester, Sutton, p 160 - 100010-00110. This would be Caleb himself (26-45) his first wife, Polly, and another unknown female, and Sumner, an infant. Polly died in 1803 and he remarried to Esther in 1805. They had two children, sons Anderson whom I think must have died young, and Eaton

1810 Census - MA, Worcester, Sutton, p 184 - A third child, a girl, was born Dec 1811, named for his first wife, who only lived about 3 weeks. There is an 1813 Worcester Co Probate File #29268 re Guardianship for Sumner. Evidently that must be about the time Caleb and Esther decided to leave Sutton for Vermont where other members of his line had moved. Perhaps Sumner preferred to stay with his maternal grandparents or something. I've only seen the index entry, not the complete file.

1820 Census - VT, Windsor Co, Weathersfield, p 193 - (along with David and Levi, both p 193 and Susannah, p 194)

1830 Census - VT, Windsor Co., Springfield, p. 130 - Probably about 1835 (bet 1833 and 1837 judging by birth locations of his grandchildren) he and son Eaton & family pulled up stakes and headed west. They seem to have been in Indiana by 1837.

1840 Census - IN, Montgomery Co, Franklin Twp, p - Both Caleb and son Eaton listed. He must have died during the next decade as his wife Esther, 78, is living in Sherbourne, Will Co, IL with Eaton's family in the 1850 census.
