Darius was born just late enough to avoid having to fight in The Civil War. Unfortunately, two of his brothers and his father weren't. His oldest brother Rowland L. died at The Battle of
Gettysburg and is buried at Gettysburg. His second oldest brother, Cyrenus, was wounded in The
Battle of Fredericksburg, and was taken prisoner in Chancellorsville and spent time in Libby prison. His father, a year after the death of his son, Rowland, joined up and was killed in The Siege of Petersburg.
Darius was a farmer.
