American Civil War

When he was very young his mother died. His father was remarried to Henrietta Righter who raised him and his two step-sisters. When Charles was two years old he came to Cumberland County with his father and step-mother and has been a resident of this vicinity ever since, except three years he served in the civil war and 14 months when he lived in Edgar Co., Ill. He was married to Louisa Ann Shuey, Sept. 22,1861. She was the daughter of Ephraim and Matilda (Grass) Shuey born Sept. 27, 1839. He enlisted Aug 14,1864 (1862) in the Civil War. He was in Co. E. 123 Regt. Ill. Vol. Inf. and discharged July 3, 1865.

The mother Louisa Ann died Feb 14, 1872, age 32 years, 4 months, and 18 days. Charles then married Sarah Delp on Nov 9, 1873. Charles Clark was a charter member of the Pleasant Valley U.B. Church and was very active in the church work. He lived in that community and in Greenup until his death, June 11,1920.
