The stone bearing the name Olive Cynthis Ormsby, was placed in the cemetery in remembrance of a California emigrant. This marks the route taken by Major William Ormsby of San Francisco between 1849 and 1852. She was the child of Major Ormsby, and died March 17, 1851.

In one of the histories of Utah there is an article prepared by Dr. Oliver Ormsby, who passed through Sessions Settlement when he was twelve years old, on the way to California. Quote from history: "Major William Ormsby and his brother John S. Ormsby, left Pennsylvania in 1849 and went to California. Early in 1852 Major Ormsby went back to Pennsylvania to bring his and his brother's families to California. There were about one hundred souls in the company and they were fitted out with the finest horses and equipment. However, when they reached Salt Lake, they had lost all of their horses and carriages and remained in Salt Lake two weeks to rest and recruit."

Matthew Ormsby, was descended from the Ormsby of Comyn (or Cummin) branch of the Ormsby family. He was born in Ireland about 1735, probably at the family home in County Sligo. He immigrated to the American Colonies sometime prior to 1761; when his name appeared on will records in Amelia County, Virginia. He was on the roster of the First Battalion of Cumberland County (Pennsylvania) Militia in 1782, stationed at Carlisle. The first Census of Virginia (sometime in the period 1783-1785) shows him a resident of Mecklenberg County, Virginia. Land records indicate he moved to Bedford County, Pennsylvania, in 1785.

Matthew Ormsby had a son he named Matthew, who was the pioneer. Matthew Ormsby, the Mercer County, Pennsylvania pioneer, was born sometime during the period of 1780-1785, but whether in Virginia or Pennsylvania is not known. In any event, Matthew Ormsby moved from Pittsburgh to a farm near Greenville, in Salem Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. LDS records indicate that he married Jane Williamson in 1805. Their children were named James Williamson, Dr John s, Dr Oliver H, Maj. William M, Lemuel P, Annabelle, Eliza jane, David L, and Matthew Ezra. He lived at the farm until his death in 1826. His youngest son, Matthew Ezra, was born shortly after his death. His widow bought a wool carding mill at Clarksville in 1830. The eldest son, James Williamson Ormsby, managed the mill for three years. Later the widow Jane is believed to have moved to Pittsburgh or its suburbs, where the younger children were raised and educated. Sons, Major William M, Dr John S. and Lemuel P were very active in California and Nevada during the gold rush days. Major William M died in Nevada in the states bloodiest Indian war. Matthew Ezra was an early settler of North San Diego County.

A related member of the English-Irish branch of the Ormsby family, named John Ormsby, was a well known pioneer and developer of Pittsburgh, whose land, trading, and manufacturing businesses were carried on by a son, Oliver Ormsby, from 1805 to 1832. Whether the widow and her family lived with these relatives of Matthew Ormsby is not known. Some close ties are circumstantially indicated. The date and place of her death is not known.
