He served in the Civil War. Grave stone "Lt. Co. D 23rd Iowa Inf."
James B. Ormsby was enrolled on the 26th day of July 1862 in Co. D of the 23rd Regt. of Iowa Inf. commanded by S.L. Glasgo. Honorably discharged at Milliken's Bend, La. on the 9th April 1863 because of physical disability contracted while on duty at Patterson, Mo. At enlistment aged 45; height 5'9"; complexion fair; hair brown; eyes blue. Above record dated Jan. 21, 1886. Now a Lawyer. (National Archives) He received a pension Cert. # 373300. His widow received Pension Cert. # 864146.
